Expanding The Aluminum Training Guns Offered And Want Your Input

Recommended Posts

I have the privilege of being a little more involved in the direction that aluminum training guns will be going. I am compiling 2 lists and would like the input of the holster making community.

The first list will be of the obvious guns; Glock 27, 23, 17, XD 4" XDm 3.8" etc... that you'd like to see offered in an aluminum gun with the detail of a Rings product.

The second list is a list of guns that are not being offered by Rings or Duncan. The one that comes to mind for me is the 3-1/2" 1911. I have turned down numerous holsters for this model because the dummy gun is not available, but I have not received enough requests to warrant buying one outright.

You can see the current list by clicking onto the logo in my signature.

Any and all input will contribute to the direction of the models available and the overall direction this company is taken. If you have direct questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks!

Bobby

CZ SP01

CZ P01

CZ 75B

CZ 75B Compact

CZ 75 P07 Duty.

CZ 75 RAMI Subcompat

With the CZ pistols popularity growing at a fast pace I would think that the Six I listed would be a very good choice of additions.

Thanks!

This is a great start and I really appreciate the input.

A member sent me a fantastic suggestion! I would be interested in obtaining a list of holster YOU have made over the last 3-12 months. I know this is a lot to ask and I understand that only a few wil be willing to do this, but I think it would be EXTREMELY valuable info to have.

Thanks again!

Bobby

You should definitely do the FNP45, FNP45 Tactical, and FNX-9/40. I've made and gotten requests for those. I'd also agree with the Ruger Sp101 2inch barrel, and the 3.5" 1911.

You might add to your list is the Ruger LC9 it is a new gun that is a little bigger then the LCP also very popular.

Kimber "Ultra" series 1911 (3 in barrel- with the hammer "COCKED" and the thumb safety "ON")

Smith & Wesson M&P .45 (full sized)

Sig P-239

Sig P-220 compact/P-245

Browning Buckmark 5.5 inch barrel

More to come, as these are just a short list of guns that I have had to use the real firearms for in order to make holsters recently...

All the various sizes of Ruger Single actions. I do more hunting/western rigs than anything else and these are by far the most common requests for which no dummy guns exist that I'm aware of.

An accurate copy of the Russian/Bulgarian single-stack Makarov should sell, there are thousands of those pistols out there and I'm not aware of anyone who makes a correct "dummy gun" for them. The one company that "did" actually made a copy of a PA-64 and called it a Makarov, and although they are similar if you fit and bone tightly, a Mak won't work in a PA-64 holster.

+1. I emailed John Ring a very long time ago regarding this misprint in his catalog. The P-64 and Makarov are nothing alike, and 1 won't work for the other.

Personally, I'd love to see someone produce a revolver line with interchangeable barrel lengths/types. Simplify the Dan Wesson approach and you'd have a winner (index pin under the barrel thread and simply a long allen bolt through the barrel)

That being said, here is my list:

Beretta Storm PX4

Colt 1911 Commander - railed and unrailed

Colt 1911 Officer - railed and unrailed

Colt Detectives Special 3"

CZ 82

CZ 52

Dan Wesson Model 15 4"

Glock 37

Kel Tek PF9

Kel Tek P3AT

Ruger P97DC 45 (not sure there is much demand for this - have an extra that I am trying to sell on Ebay and am hardly getting any hits)

S&W 10 2.5"

S&W 15 4"

S&W 66 2.5" and 4"

S&W 686 2.5"

Springfield 1911 Micro

Springfield EMP

Stoeger Cougar 45 (another odd-ball that is probably not in demand)

That would be very nice. I've had to learn to get creative to make some of these revolver holsters.

I'm not a big shot but my list would be:

S&W J-frame 1 7/8" (Could use a 3")

S&W K-frame 2.5, 4, 6"

S&W L-frame 2.5, 4, 6"

S&W N-frame (Need a 4-6")

S&W Sigma

1911 5, 4.25, 3" (NEED a Sig/Railed Sig)

Ruger Blackhawk 5.5"

Ruger SP 101 3"

Ruger GP 100 6"

Ruger Mark III 5.5"

Ruger Bisley 7.5"

Dan Wesson Model 15 (all barrel lengths up to the 8")

Colt 1903 Hammerless

Colt SAA 4 3/4"

Colt Python 4"

Berretta Storm PX-4

Berretta 92fS

H&K P7

H&K USP

Glock 26

Glock 23

Makarov

Thank you very much! I am going to move forward with these lists and will post up the model that make the first cut.

As new models become popular, please reach out to me. I can not guarantee they will be made, but the more requests for a particular model, the higher the certainty that it will be made.

It might go without saying, but it would be good to make sure all of the 1911s are cocked and locked. Preferably with paddle safeties instead of small thumb safeties. Also, make them with beavertail grip safeties, so we can be certain any body shields we make will cover them.

Also, would like to echo the Ruger Blackhawk requests, as well as a Redhawk.

I haven't done any western style holsters, but I think many people might like to see a Single Action Army with a 4 3/4 inch barrel. Ring's currently has them in 5 1/2 and 7 1/2 only.

Also, the Colt Mustang .380 is back in production. I know a lot of Colt lovers are very excited about this. If Colt dedicates enough production to it, this will be a popular little number in need of holsters.

Those are my thoughts for now. Thank you Cleveland for allowing us to offer some ideas about the direction of dummy gun production. This is neat.

I could use a:

Sig 2022

Bersa UC PRO 9 & 40 (the newer versions with the rail)

And I third the idea for the revolver dummy guns with interchangeable barrels

I have not forgotten about this thread, I am still waiting to hear back on a list I submitted.

In the mean time, I will offer a $5 discount on any of my aluminum training guns to any "contributing member" of leatherworker.net. This discount will be good through the end of February. You have to put leatherworker and your user name in the comments box on my order form to get the discount.

I will post an update as soon as I have one.

Thanks again!

Bobby,

Does that mean I get a refund??? LOL. I'm just messing with you. Thanks for everything. I just wanted to let everyone know that the guns Bobby dropped off 2 weeks ago were top notch. I was able to get front door, in person service. There is no comparison between the ones Bobby supplies and the Duncan guns. Do not hesitate to order from Bobby if you need something.
