Breastcollar

Recommended Posts

I have a customer wanting a breastcollar made, and wants his name on it. The problem I'm having is his first name has 4 letters and his last name has 7 letters. The only thing I can see to do is, either put his first AND last name on both sides, or space his first name out to take up more room. I need some ideas, what would you guys do?? I have to have it made in 5 days. Thanks, Rus

I think I would take it up with the customer....explain the design problem. You might suggest using his initials in a mongram style, centered on each side as an alternative......

Just a thought...

Well......... now the problem isn't fitting the name, he came in this morning and wants me to put his name on a Billy Cook breastcollar, that his dad has, and that matches the saddle. He left before I had a chance to tell him the problem with doing that. I think it'll just be cheaper for him to have me make him one. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's easier to incorporate the tooling into the name, than the other way around. If it was me, I would keep the Billy Cook original, and have one made that has the 'bells & wistles' I want.

I would not do the name on the customers item as just in chance you mess it up you will have to buy him a new one. If you make one and say you mess up a letter it's just the leather for one side. You also have no way of knowing what kind of leather the Billy Cook one is made out of and if it will tool the way you are used to. And 5 days thats not acceptable. BAD PLANNING ON HIS PART DOES NOT CONSTITUE AN EMERGENCY ON YOUR PART. I always require 2 weeks on custom orders. If he just wants the name stamped with the Tandy letters that may be the way to go on short notice. I think I would just center the first name on one side and the last name on the other side. It's hard to see both sides of the horse at the same time. lol

Thanks, Randy, you made alot of good points. The short notice is kinda my fault, cause I agreed to it for the simple reason, I know why he wants it then and it can get me lots of work. He is going on a 100 mile trail ride, with us, and about 500 other folks. He knows alot more of them than I do, he has been going every year since 1979. I'll discuss it with him when he comes in monday, but I WON'T do the Billy Cook. Thanks again, Rus
