cylinder arm for medium wt. work?

Recommended Posts

I make carved leather items such as journal covers, portfolios, belts, and sheaths -- no heavy duty stuff like saddles and holsters or really thin items. While a flat bed machine would probably handle the majority of my projects, I would like the versatility of a cylinder arm machine to sew simple bags, boxes and cases. Can you buy a cylinder arm machine with a table to handle both flat and bag work less than 1/2" thick that doesn't require a tremendous amount of adjustment to do different projects? Thanks for any advice or machine options.

I do not know of too many lightweight cylinder arm machines that have flatbed tabletop attachments ready made for them. I have seen plenty of flatbed tabletop attachments for the heavy duty cyminder arm machines, but not for the lighter weight machines.

There are a lot of cylinder arm machines out there that can do lighter weight leather that is about 3/8" thick or less. We sell some, as well as Artisan, Ferdco, Consew, and many others.

Hi,

The old Singer Class 17 is one type of light cylinder machine that was available with an attachable table. There were a number of different versions for portfolios, pocket books, shoes and boots. They were fairly common, we have one that we used for small leather goods, a class 17-16, I expect that you could find one, if you hunted about a bit.

These are a couple of photos of ours:
