My Nonsense

Recommended Posts

I finally decided to break out the stuff I bought to begin leatherworking. I wasn't sure about how to do ANYTHING at all, really. Just what I've watched in videos and read on here. I'm originally interested in this for making holsters, possibly the ability to fix things for saddles, carraiges...

I started out with a piece of scrap that I had, I offered whatever I made to be for my GF first, hence the K(erri) and off I went. It was just basically a learning of the whole shebang. Trimming to be a square, carving, using tools, etc. I think it came out pretty good, considering it was with zero planning and just started using tools as I went along to see what each did! I think it was a tad small to start with for a project. The art was tight for the swivel knife.

Let me know what you think!

Fixed K!

More detail - note the failed use of the seeder! The K looks terrible!

Hi Dave, welcome to the forum!

You're off to a good start. Just keep trying things on scraps and decide what you like and don't like. Trying things is the best way to learn this stuff! And as you have questions feel free to post them here. Someone will help you out.

I am in the same boat. Just recently tried it out, and have only done a couple keychain kits. I'm jealous you can just come up with that, though. I have to trace and re-trace and have everything planned. Yours came out absolutely great for a first time! I did the same thing, just put tools to leather before I really knew what I was doing. Someone even requested my first project. I'll bet your GF loves it!
