  1. I do not know how it would affect the leather but a mild bleach solution should kill the mold and clean it off. Its what I used to use when I was painting and we cleaned decks off but we would mix 50/50. Just a thought.
  2. Thanks zuludog for the reply, I have actually been in contact with Kabar about them, they have a kit to replace the leather, pommel and guard. Problem is with mine is that the end of the tang where the pommel attaches is broken. So I have to go with what I have. I will check out the british blades site. Thanks!
  3. LOL! this topic seems to work for me!! Okay the short version....I have a shoulder of leather and have no Idea how to finish it! I have 2 WW2 Ka-Bars that need sheaths and at least 1 that needs handles.....and an old Aerial Mfg M3 trench knife with an original M6 sheath that I want to clean up. The sheath though may not be savable.....I can post pictures.. Look here..... http://neowolf1.imgur.com/ There should be 2 albums there....don't have pics of the M3 yet but will soon. The big issue I have is that I need to balance cost with quality. I have read about things like useing teabags or coffee to color water and to seal with Mink oil....not sure that I trust that. Then I have wondered about fabric dyes? I want it too look good! But I can not spend I lot of money on it. I would love to redo the Kabars and give them back to my parents. My dad is 80 and has parkinsons so I do not see them getting much abuse. I do not care about the monetary value of any of these......its the sentimental value. The M3 was my dads step-dad who carried it on Normandy beach. Well I think I have rambled enough for now. Thanks in advance for any hints, tips or ideas!! NeoWolf
  4. Hello there! I am a recent newbie to leather. I really like what I am doing so far but I know I have tons to learn. Right now my main focus is leather knife sheaths and stacked leather handles for knives. I recently came into possession of 2 old Kabar knives in sad condition. One belongs to my 80 year old father....a Mk1 Fighting/Utility knife....it belonged to his uncle who was in the Navy. The other is a Mk2 Kabar (the one most are familiar with..) that belonged to my mothers father also in the navy. Niether had been cared for at all and I am trying to refurbish them. So I am at the leather now. The stacked leather washer handles are in sad shape. The handle on the Mk2 began to disintegrate after cleaning them and I am going to have to replace them. The other seems to be fairing better but still needs work. Niether has sheaths.....so I took up leather working!! LOL I hope to learn some tips and tricks to make it go smoother. Right now all I have is some basic tools and a shoulder of leather I picked up at a leather shop to work with. So let the fun begin!! Thanks for letting me join!! NeoWolf
