So you have a shirt or a robe or any clothing that's washable fabric and you have leather on the elbow or were ever how do you clean it.

There is an additive you can get for the washing machine....darned if I can think of the name right now, and SWMBO has gone out.

Basically it lets you wash it normally, but the leather will stay soft and supple, not harden up. It's used when you wash things like english breeches with the suede patches. Often you can find it at the tack shops.

I had to break down and ask SWMBO, but it's Pepede.

A quick google search didn't give a site for it, but shows it on lots of tack and saddle shops sites etc. Should be able to find something somewhat local with a few inquiries. I'm not certain, so take it for what it's worth, but I understand it can also be used on sheepskin and the like for washing too.

You can wash clothes like that in regular detergent, but do NOT put in the dryer. That's where the leather gets damaged. hang it up to dry. If you want to get grunge off of suede, use a toothbrush and some baking soda. If it's regular leather, any standard conditioner will clean it- just be sure not to slop it on the fabric by accident. If the whole garment is leather, especially suede, spend the $$ at the professional dry cleaner that regularly deals with leather. If the person behind the counter seems unsure about your item, run, do not walk, out the door.
