These Didnt Touch Before....

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a singer 211g166 and it jammed up last night. It was my fault, my thread end got taken down into the bobbin works.

I managed to remove most of the stuck thread but have one piece stuck under the bobbin case I can't get to. I also noticed that now the ear on the rotating part of the bobbin works gets stuck on the finger thing in the foreground. I got up and walked away last night because I didn't want to haphazardly remove pieces and break something.

I would appreciate any points in the right direction, help identifying the names of he parts, and a good exploded diagram of the machine. I've heard there are good service manuals on the web, is there a preferred place to get them?

Here's the pic:

Is the thread balled up behind the bobbin pushing it out? I'm no sewing machine tech, but try this site ...

No, the thread was wrapped around it. I removed a few inches already, that little tag is stuck really well though.

Thanks for the link, I will check it out.

Oh, is that little lever in the middle supposed to be up like that?

That's the lock the holds the bobbin in the case, I left it up after removing the bobbin.

Hello Cletonius. Loosen the 2 little screws that hold the gib on. This will loosen the bobbin case enabling you to remove the thread. If this doesn't work, then take both gib screws out and remove the gib and the bobbin case. You may have to turn the hand wheel until the bobbin case is free. You will be able to remove the thread once the bobbin case is out. There are no adjustments that you will have to make, just remove and replace. Hope this helps. P.S. Don't drop the screws! Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve, the gib screws are the ones inside the bobbin case? (At 12:00 in the pic)

I've reattached your pic with red arrows pointing to the screws you need to loosen. To make it easier, put a few drops of machine oil to the inside edge between the gib and the bobbin basket. As Steve said, you don't want to lose those screws. I use a precise screwdriver for those and magnetize it with a rare earth magnet. The oil will help you rotate the basket some to remove the thread. This is a common occurance on verticle hook machines. Try not to use any tools when moving your bobbin basket around. The tread travels around the entire assembly and you don't want a nick from a screwdriver. If you have to remove it completely, it has a small range where it will come out. You'll need to hold the basket stationary and rotate the hook until it pops out. This is where the oil comes in handy.

Regards, Eric

Thank you Eric.

I managed to get the thread out and reinstall the bobbin case without much issue. I downloaded a pdf of the service book. Having better drawings of the assembly helped me a lot. I took advantage of having everything apart and oiled everything before reassembly. I still have to put the feed dogs, feet, and needle back together to before I find out if it works again.

Thanks again for all the help guys!
