  1. Bad news Folks, The Jan Schoonover Class we planned has been canceled. For various reasons a number of folks had to drop out of the show, leaving us with not enough students to make Jan's drive from Montana to Pittsburgh a financially wise decision. Jan is still willing to come out at some point. We just need to have enough students. Thank you to all who signed up. We will try to bring Jan here again. Thanks, Chris Kearns
  2. Hey everyone, Here is a picture that Jan just sent to me of the wolf that we will learn how to emboss in his class. There is still room in the class if you would like to join us. Thanks! Chris Kearns Wolf.doc Wolf.doc

  4. Class dates have been picked for Jan's embossing class: June 26th & 27th. Although the exact location has yet to be determined, we are looking at classrooms about 25 miles north of Pittsburgh. Please let me know if you want to take part in this great learning opportunity. Thanks! Chris Kearns
  5. Just a quick update on the class planning. We are up to 7 students of the 10 minimum that we need in order for Jan to come out here. Things are looking good! We would love to fill the classroom. Come join us! Thanks! Chris Kearns
  6. Hi Crystal, Thanks for your interest! We are excited about the class. And getting to meet other leather workers is just an added bonus! I'll keep you updated. Chris
  7. Thanks Clay. We really want this to happen as well. And I've seen photo's of that grizzly, that is a truly amazing work of art! Maybe after he is here in June we can compare notes? Chris
  8. Hey Folks, Jan Schoonover, know for his amazing embossed leather pictures, is willing to come to Pittsburgh to teach a two-day, hands on, intensive class IF we can get at least 10 students to take the class. The dates will be a Saturday & Sunday in June, yet to be determined. And the cost will be approximately $200 per student. We are thinking of either doing a wolf or a bear. The Pitt Pounders Leather Guild is happy to have Jan come to share his skills and expertise, and we would love to open this class to anyone as interested in learning what Jan has to teach as we are. If you are one of those interested people, please let me know ASAP so that plans can be finalized. Thanks! Chris
  9. Kathy, Outstanding work!! And thanks for the tutorial. Chris
  10. Clay, With the great results you got I can see why that class changed your direction in leather working. I would love to learn how Jan does that Grizzly as well. Do you know if he still teaches classes? The Pitt Pounders would enjoy having him here for a class or two. Thanks! Chris
  11. leatherman, Great job on the bolo. What impressed me most was the silver work that you did. Very clean. Very nice! Chris

Chris, there is very little putty on the front side of this one. There is a little under one antler to get it to stand out a little, and then there is some inside the mouth, but none on the face or the body. Hey Clay, I found some of your tooling tutorials on the main page, more great work, but what tutorials show the embossing? Thanks again, Chris

Beautiful work Clay! Did you have to use any leather dust putty on the front side of the picture? If so, where? Thanks, Chris
