Advice On Airbrushes

Recommended Posts

I posted this elsewhere before I saw that there was an actual Masks section on these forums.

My husband has taken up leather masks as a hobby and is really into it. He's gotten to the point where he wants to start painting them and thinks that an airbrush is the way to go.

Neither of us has experience with airbrushes but I'd like to get him one for his birthday.

Can anyone give me pointers on what would be a good choice? or things to look out for?

Buy the best you can afford. Paasche, Iwata, Badger are some of the better known brands. Available all over, and easily serviced. Then you need to decide on single, or double action, as well as siphon, or gravity feed. I would suggest siphon as they can be used at all angles, and have larger capacity. You may end up with more than one brush to make things easier.

I have been making leather masks for some time now.

I have always used siphon feed Iwata brushes and have had great luck with them.

I have at least a dozen brushes and keep four on a manifold block for ease of color change.

Check out Bear Air for lots of airbrush related items. No affiliation.

You can get by with a standard air compressor, electric without oil preferred.

Hope this helps some..................

There are some good airbrushing websites out there too. Just google airbrush forums.
