  1. Quick question about sanding edges... I'm using an oscillating drum sander (Delta BOSS) to clean up the edges of two pieces of leather cut for a holster. This is to get clean matched edges for grooving/stitching. I am finding that the 8/9oz veg tan leather sands great, except a very thin layer at the top of the grain side. This skin/film/grain wants to stay attached and fold over or generally not sand off. Is that typical? I can bevel it off fairly easily, but not sure if I am maybe using a drum too coarse, or not coarse enough, or... Thanks! Kron
  2. Thanks! WIll check that book out. My downfall may end up being that I also found the SLC online store/wite. Already received their DVD catalog.... And I have a TLF about 1 mile from the house for when I can't wait for an online delivery at a good price... My wallet is in trouble.
  3. Hello all. New member from Houston Texas area. Fell through a Google wormhole and found this treasure trove of information. Decided I needed to stick around and absorb as much information as possible. Googel search started when I bought a random, hand made holster for my new SAA 4 3/4" revolver. The holster that came in the mail was decent for the price as expected, but nowhere close to what I ultimately want to carry this piece in. A few searches later on leather, and tooling, and holster patterns, and whatever else... I ended up here. Looks like a nice place with lots of helpful, knowledgeable folk. Since then, I've picked up about a dozen LW books (mostly Stohlman), some leather, some tools, with more to come as gifts later this month... So spending time soaking it all in for now. Eventually, I'll be trying my hand at some holster, knife sheaths, and whatever else strikes my fancy. Already this site has helped me convince myself that I need an iPad cover, messenger bag, and a lot of free time to practice. Thanks! Kron
