Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Can someone help me? How was this done? I can't figure out how the impressions around the stamps stayed undyed.

Thanks!

That's called block dying. (done a lot back in the 70s) Take a soft cloth, wrap it around a block of wood. Apply dye to cloth, dab off excess and apply dye with block to your collar. Apply a second coat as needed... until you reach a desired color.

easy.

X2, one note, you can have any color you wish in the depressions, dye that color first, let thouroughly dry, then block dye the item which will leave the original color in the depressions. Normally a good idea to use a darker color for the block dying so that the original color is covered well. I do this a lot on Black Guitar Straps, dye the letters red first then use USMC Black to block dye with.
