Machine Sewing Western Holsters With Fillers

Recommended Posts

Another question for the ones machine sewing western, or really any holster with fillers. Would I need to make any tension adjustments or needle changes when sewing the filler? I intend to skive two 6 oz fillers down to zero. So, when the holster is folded and sewn together, I'll ultimately be transitioning from 12 oz on the toe to 24 oz at the trigger guard. I'm not sure if I'm making sense here or not. But any help would be appreciated.

I read on here that people adjust the tension for ever thickness they sew. I don't.

My machines have the tension set to the thinnest thing / lightest weight they will sew and i leave them alone. They work fine from thin to thick with no adjustment after doing that. Doing that has worked fine for me for over 20 years.

I am guessing you are talking about the welt, which would allow you to ease the trigger guard a bit. But no, you do not have to adjust the tension to pull the bobbin thread up further. Campbell doesn't recommend pulling the lock up any further than the point it disappears. Other than that, I've never seen anything that says the lock has to be in the middle of the leather. Most times this will not change when the thickness changes.
