  1. Thank you, guys. I know I have a long way to go before I really know what I'm doing and have results I'm totally happy with. I'm one of those who sees the flaws in my work before anything else. I know, too, that eventually I'll redo the plane on another, better wallet. Just not yet, while I'm just getting started.
  2. Hi. I'm kinda new here, though I have been reading the forum for a couple of weeks. I started tooling leather in August, and have completed a couple of Tandy wallet kits, and a tablet case. This wallet was all on my own. Dad is rough on the insides, so I took the suggestion of tyvek, then used glazed pigskin split to line it. The plane was my dad's toy when I was growing up. I'm hoping it's not too rough for him for Christmas. What do you think?
  3. Thanks to all who have weighed in here...I just have a small table in the family room, and no way to keep the Brittany out. So far, she hasn't gotten into the scraps, but has found flaky pieces I've removed by skiving that hit the floor. She's much better at finding them than I am...
  4. Another option is to scan your pattern, then print it onto an overhead transparency (you can get them at office supply stores). It lets you see the leather underneath to be sure of your alignment, and can be used several times before needing to be replaced. For added protection, I slip mine into a plastic page protector.
