Archival bars for notebooks rather than rings

Recommended Posts

Hi All - does anyone know:

1) where to get the archival bars for notebooks, mostly used to archive magazines instead of punching holes in them and using a three ring system

2) How to install them in a leather notebook project?

Any advice is appreciated!

If you're going for some kind of authenticity, then I can't help.

If you just want to archive magazines without putting holes in them, then I recommend getting some magazine holders for 3 ring binders. They're just long flat pieces of plastic with 3 holes for the ring binder, and a long slot for the magazine to be put through. I used a bunch of these with LCSJ mags a while ago. If you need a better description or a link, I'm sure I can find one.

Thanks, I am sure that I can find them,. I didn't realize that they had plastic sleeves for them. I wanted to do what the library does and clips somehow with the metal clamps, then the clamps insert to avoid holes in the magazines - but the plastic will be much cheaper, easier, and I just didn't know they made them - thanks again!

Interesting. I've stored magazines as Greg has suggested and it works just fine. I assume you are looking for something like this:

I purchased these units while I was in Japan (use these keywords to search with google, then translate one of the pages: kokuyo mt160b).

I always thought I would make some similar binders from leather, but only got just past the thinking stage. I did purchase some piano wire from a model hobby shop that were the same diameter and cut to the correct lengths, but the "U" channel for the top and bottom were my stumbling blocks. Perhaps someone on this group could suggest a way to purchase something "off-the-shelf" that would act as the channel to hold the wire and a way to bind to a spine that we could cover and decorated with leather.
