  1. Hi there, I'm new to this board (and imagine I'll spend a lot of time reading the amazing info here!!!). I'm pretty new to sewing but even newer to leather...previously I've worked in other media (I'm a silversmith, painter and sculptor). My husband and I would like to be able to make heavier weight wearable leather pieces (gauntlets, boots, bags, etc.). I'm really excited to get started but obviously have lots to learn. A Juki LU-562 is for sale in my area for $575 with the following description: Juki LU-562 walking foot leather Indstrial sewing machine with reverse. This machine would be Ideal for some one to start a leather shop or to make chaps and do Upolstory. This machine has a big bobbin so you don't constantly have to change it! It has a D C Servo motor that is quite and uses less electricity and can be set to slow sew without a speed reducer. Ideal first machine or great for the experienced sewer. Extra Needles, bobbins,Thread and Manual. this machine has interchangeable parts with lots of machines so parts are cheap! The machine is clean and nice looking in the pictures and appears to come with the table. Is this something worth exploring at the price of $575? What sorts of questions should I ask? Are parts available easily and can it be serviced? Anything specific I should look for if I go test it out (common areas of breakdown?)? Any other things I should think about? Thanks so much for your time! Jen
