  1. Thanks for the tips! Yes, I ran the motor without the machine attached and it seemed good. So I've targeted the problem to the stop motion washer assembly at least. Could be just a matter of a simple and cheap part. Onward... thanks again for the response.
  2. Hi all, I'm just throwing this question out into the ether because I got such helpful feedback on a problem with my consew 226r (which is resolved, thank you very much!). The issue I'm having now is with the clutch motor on my singer 20U. Suddenly it's very slow and erratic, as well as making the flywheel on the hand wheel become loosey goosey. I've tried adjusting the belt tension and cleaning the stop motion clamp washer assembly to no avail. Still very slow and weird. I'm guessing it's the motor-- maybe I'm focusing on the wrong thing, but when i disengage the belt and move machine via the hand wheel everything seems smooth and normal. I just don't know where to begin with an electric motor like this. Nothing mechanical seems amiss from the outside. Any suggestions, similar experiences, or helpful links out there?
  3. Hey, thanks so much for all your help and instructions! It's been so nice to get much needed help. Now I am just searching for the part and have the confidence to install it when it arrives and get right back to work.
  4. This machine has been so great to me over the years that I've never actually had to replace anything mechanical so far. I was trying to sew something much too thick for the poor machine (an old circus tent's webbing) and was forcing the hand wheel down to try and complete the stitch. After a few broken and bent needles, it was no longer picking up the bobbin thread. This is when I felt the tip of the hook and noticed it was rough and seemed like just a tiny piece had snapped off. So I set to work trying to get it out and realized I don't know what I'm doing. Anybody have this issue or can direct me to removing it? I live in the super sticks and there are no repair people here. Any hints would be much appreciated! Thanks
