Another New Guy From New York

Recommended Posts

Hi gang,

I've been dabbling in leather work since about May when I went looking for a holster for a new handgun and couldn't bear to spend that much money on it. I figured for a few buck more I could buy a piece of leather and some basic tools and try my hand at making my own so that's what I did. I started out only wanting to make a few things for myself but it seems to have evolved into a hobby that's eating the majority of my free time. I can't complain, I've made a few bucks at it and it's become self supporting in that the money I've made has made my projects free for me. The majority of work that I've done has been duty gear for the guys I work with: radio holders, key clips, cuff cases, baton rings, glove pouches, etc. I even ended up making a 2 1/4" duty belt for one of the guys. Other projects have been a couple of rifle butt cuffs, a holster and a few sheaths for multi-tools and fixed blade knives. Upcoming projects are a basket weave cobra style rifle sling and a pancake holster for a Glock 22 and who knows what else. What I really want to learn is leather carving. My boys gave me a basic carving tool set for Father's day but I rarely have time to practice, maybe this winter I'll get some real time to play around with it. I've been browsing some of the stuff you guys have done and think I'm a bit out of my league here but I figure if I run with the big dogs maybe I can learn a few things even if I can't keep up. Here's a couple of my favorite pieces that I've done:

Welcome to the forum! Your projects look pretty good, so far. Good luck with the tooling! This is certainly the place to get some good ideas.
