Saddle Sewing Machine? Need Help Please

Recommended Posts

This single pedal sewing machine was my Dads and I dont have much information on it. Does anyone have ideas of maker, purpose, approx. date and value? Is it even used in Saddle Making?

There was a tag on it but its gone now, no markings of Manufacture of anykind.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you.

It may have worked once, but is now more than six years old. Using links to display photos/images is not the best idea, but sometimes people have problems getting images downloaded to this site due to their large size. Oh well.

Easy fix, email them to yourself, and let the phone downsize them for you!

Depends if you are using a phone..email doesn't just send things to phones..some of us have more computers ( 12 ) than we have phones ( 4 )..

You could just open the image in "whatever software" that you have ( in your phone, or tablet or your computer )..select "resize" image..when it asks" what size..you choose 800px ( on any side ) ..and then select "save"..it will fit , upload to here ..with no problem..and if your cell services is "down", or "unavailable" .. that method works..whereas "emailing it to yourself"..only works if you can access your email service..

My email service 40 megs down , 9 megs up .. ( and my cell phone service 4G ) will let me send files as big as 500 megs ( maybe even more, that is as big as I've used so far ) with each email..just takes a while to upload at 9 megs..

Some people have waaay better upload and download service than that..But I'm in a small place..population around 3000..and right on the coast, but in a rural, farming-fishing area..2 clicks down the road either way..it is 1 gig fibre..coming to us next year..Yay !!

That's one way to do it, but you don't really have control over the size, only that it can be made "smaller."

The size of an image in bytes is not directly related to that image's resolution, i.e., pixel dimension (width x height), and I read once that this site has pixel dimension limits (not sure what exactly those dimensions are off the top of my head), although from a thread I just read, the size limits are in bytes, but are different for members than for moderators. Plus, not everyone uses an IPhone to take their photos. Some of us, sometimes, use real cameras, although phone cameras are quickly catching up, if not surpassing, to the quality of stand-alone camera images.

The only size restriction is the size of the files.  I think it is about 3.4 MB.  (Maybe I reversed the digits.)  My limit is different and I of course don't see the regular users limit anymore.  800 x 600 pixels yields a file around 4 kB.  So you can load lots of photos if resized down.  Depending on software you have or are using, you can set file size rather than pixel dimensions.  Up to you to resize to what will fit within the site's limitations.  Would be nice it the site resized automatically!

Would be, but sometimes you really want the detail to show up, so without doing a close-up, that calls for a higher resolution image. Maybe if it acted like an IPhone and offered various sizes... now that would make life easier for many of our fellow leather workers, and possibly allow us to see more of their work.

JPEGs are funny animals. I created a black 800 x 600 pixel image in Photoshop that had a file size of 17.2 kB, a white image the same size that was 11.7 kB, and then resized a high resolution image down to 800 x 600 and it was 641 kB. Go figure...

Content in the photo really has a big impact on file size (range of colour and intensity).  In Photoshop, when saving a JPEG, I have a choice of "quality" from 0 (smallest file size) to 12 (largest file size).

So I picked a random photo that was saved as a TIFF.  1447 x 1551 pixels (20" x 21.5") saved with a resolution of 72 pixels / inch with a 3 MB File size.  Saved it as a JPEG without reducing the size.  Set at 0, file size was 142 kB.  Set at 12, file size was 1.4 MB (10 times larger).  Resized the original to 746 x 800 pixels maintaining the same proportions, and did test over.  0 yielded a file size of 81.6 kB, 12 yielded a file size of 514 kB.  So quite a range of file sizes.

My numbers quoted in a previous post above were out by at least 10 times; should never quote numbers without testing and confirming!

Resizing makes a substantial difference, and the quality setting makes a lot of difference too.  I think the quality setting gets missed in a lot of resizing applications, or missed by the user in other cases.  Would be nice if we could keep things simple, just one setting instead of too many choices for the average user.

My hobby is printing, so then we get into the topic of color mode, which also has a impact on the file size. Changing from RGB, which is what cameras use, to CMYK, which is what printers use, has caused that 641 kB file to mushroom to 1.68 MB.
