Canadian Source For Kangaroo Leather Or Lace?

Recommended Posts

Roo leather is hard to come by in Canada... all the online sources are in the USA. Apparently, kangaroo is considered an "exotic" leather and can't be reasonably shipped by USPS. It would have to be shipped UPS which always burns me with taxes and duties.

Any Canadian braiders able to share their source for whole roo hides or already-made lace?

Oh sure, sorry to be secretive. Just try Sheridan leathers, here is a link.

I am hoping this is not something new from Canadian Customs. I got some Roo Januaryish with no problems.

Kangaroos are not really exotic and not threatened in numbers

Let me know how it works out for you

Definitely not, find it funny that they are considered exotic elsewhere when they jump across the road where my father in law lives and theres a mass of them that lives in the grounds of the chicken farm.

Hee Hee, originally they didn't come with any packaging in the souvenir shops and it was interesting to say the least when the penny dropped with some tourists as to what part of the kangaroo they actually came from. You could see it ticking over in their mind, leg, no, paw, no, tail, no, back, no, ears, no Oh ! they were put back on the shelf rather quickly then.

I was just in Vancouver last weekend, and there's a place that carries some roo. The owner thought they were sold out, but while going through the rows of hides with me he found some in a denim blue colour that he might still have! I believe it was chrome-tan. Pretty stiff, with a fair amount of marks.

The place is called Lonsdale Leather. I've seen them carry kangaroo in larger stock. Just ask how soon they're expecting to get more in, because they had quite a lot stocked last year.

edit: I also remember seeing quite a bit of kangaroo lace in-stock.

That is my secret leather supply store!!!!

Absolutely love that place.... fun getting lost in the huge warehouse racks of leather.

Phillip is the Aussie who runs it, such a great guy. I have been there two Saturdays in a row buying some of the Horween leather he has in stock at the moment.

I will have to do a Roo hunt now, don't know why I didn't think he would have kangaroo

Phillip at Lonsdale is a real good guy. He brings stock in for me on special order even though he has to order more in than what I need and goes out of his way to source supplies, tools and notions. His company is indispensable to my custom business.

That is great, I am glad his good reputation is spreading.

He was saying that he will take the winter off and head down south for sun...you could run the business for six months

That link is dead. I googled and found this site http://www.lonsdaleleather.com/ It appears that he's looking to sell his business. That's too bad...
