    Pics Of Heel Knot

I dont want to mislead anyone and I just looked back over this post! The hackamore that has a more yellow color is a Vince Donely working hackamore I did not make that one all of the others are built by me! I put it in there and forgot to mention that fact! The reason I posted it was to show how much longer the nose button was than the ones I've been building but it sure a nice hackamore!!!">">

    Pics Of Heel Knot

No actually what ive done on a few hackamores is about an 1.5 inches from the end of my nose button I put another ring knot I really like the way it sits on horse! those knots are actually rite on the side of the horses nose they have a lot of feel to them. The latigo hackamore that you like has the ring knots like that but u cant really tell because the turn back of the interweave sort of blends it all in. on nose buttons that I want straight I just put some tape (either friction, or athletic, or flowrist tape it shapes really well but sort of a pain to deal with) all of those work well. I put it on till it is about 3/4 thick across the entire nose button i just spiral it on like in Gail Hought's book. but I've tried her method of making a tapered nose button and did not like the way it came out. what I do now is put the ring knots like I said and fill the middle with tape until about even with the ring knots, then I put one full layer of tape then I put another layer just the width of the tape on outside of my ring knots. Ive never tried the method that you are speaking of. I think i prefer the nose button with just the ring knots and about 7 inch so it is a little shorter than most folks use. I feel like it has a faster release than a long button. I'm going to post some pics of a few different hackamores Ive made with different types of nose buttons and heel knots. let me know what you think of them. ">">">">">">">">">">">"> The Hackamore with the black mecate is by far the best using hackamore ive made so far I've made some that are fancier but none have the feel that this one dose. I think the short nose button and also the two ring knots I added that sit just perfectly on each side of the horses nose makes all the difference in the world. It may not look like much but man does it have alot of feel and horses just instantly seem lighter when they wear it. I would appreciate any critism from you guys to help me get better I still have a long ways to go. So I would appreciate any suggestions thanks, Brock

">">">">">">"> I had a email about how I did the pattern on this heel knot so I thought I would just post some close up pics of it. Hope it helps! Its really pretty simple pattern once you see it close.
  8. By the way Its far from complete the base of the antleer is going to be cut off and im just going to put a heel knot over the cut part and where the braiding starts i believe im just going to do like attaching a honda to a reat and back braid it back down! any suggestions would be appreciated!!! thanks Brock'

    Bridle And Reins

I agree it's a bit more work but the overall look is much nicer! Your work looks very good havent been on here in quite a while!
  12. Here is the final product! It took a while for me to get them posted! Hope some of you could give me some feedback on what you think I could do differently next time. I must say I read somewhere on here from one of the more experienced people that he had tried all types cores in hackamores and he always goes back to rawhide and as I usually find out later that I agree completely!!! The rope core works but it dosent shape really nice like a braided core does!!! I'm still happy with the results its probably only the 20th hackamore that I've braided!
