Custom Roper Wallet

Recommended Posts

I wanted to take a second to show you all a recent custom order wallet that was made for a person in Waco Texas. They were specific in the colors they wanted and the initial. The rest was left to my limited imagination. So off we went.

Exterior: Elephant

Applique: Stingray

Maker's Mark: Veg-Tan stamped and dyed black

Lacing: Roo

Interior: Chaylor-Fennelli - Roo

Comments are always welcome!

Big, big thanks to Big Papa for the help and inspiration. But I don't think I will take another one like this again. I really missed not tooling any leather, sorry bro!

When you say "Exterior; Elephant" is that code for something else's hide or am i missing something!(I'm sure it must be a nickname for something else but i am a newbie) So far as i know ivory is banned....Elephant leg umbrella stands are out of fashion(TF!) and you can't buy Elephant burgers so what is that all about????

Not trying to hijack your thread but you did ask for any comments!

PS. that lacing looks superb....i am young...ish but i will learn!

Bigfoot,

The hide used on the exterior of that wallet is elephant. The big pachyderm animal sometimes seen flying by his ears in the Disney movies.

Yes ivory is illegal/banned. Elephant hide is not. The skins come from farm raised or legally culled animals.

It is somewhat widely available through a couple distributors and is very popular in boot making.

It is a strong, durable and attractive hide.

As far as elephant burgers... I'm sure they are available somewhere. Just not at McDonald's.

No problem... just farm that work my way ;)

I appreciate the comments. Just wanted to pass on some kudos to Kevin at Springfield Leather. he supplied this Elephant in case you all are wondering where you can get it.

Sorry, the lacing technique I used (and really, really like) is the Mexican Round Braid on this wallet.
