Question About Saddleback Marketing

Recommended Posts

This saddleback leather bible cover is marketed with this line:

"The top layer has the toughest and tightest fibers of the leather (grain) and the pores that take in your oils when touched. That's why full grain ages so nicely."

Does that mean they do not put on a waterproof finish like acrylic resolene? Otherwise how would oils get through?

Some people just oil the leather and don't put a finish on like resolene. I'm going to try and make a couple of leashes for a friend's lab puppies and I'm going to put neatsfoot on them in case the pups chew them. Even with resolene it will absorb some things, I know I can have a piece of leather I used an alcohol stain on that will be stiff as a board, and put bag balm on it and work the leather and it relaxes and absorbs the bag balm over night. I believe they use oil tanned leather for all their products and they don't apply sealers - just some type of leather care product they promote and sell.
