Where to find old hardware?

Recommended Posts

I would love to find an old cartridge belt buckle like the one in the picture.

Does anyone have an old cartridge belt like this, or an old buckle laying around that they want to sell? They used buckles like this on all kinds of leather goods back in the day, it may not be on a cartridge belt.

I want to reproduce the buckle for use on my leather goods and need it to copy. I know various companies produce modern copies, Tandy, Cody, etc. But I want to go to the source and use an original.

I need one to fit a 1.5 inch belt.

email me: karl@karlderrick.com

Thanks!

Karl

Those are called "Clipped Corner Buckles" and can be bought new from Tandy, and Weaver Leather.

I happen to have two of those and one has your name on it. Send me a pm with an address and it or both can be yours. Cost? you can pass it along to someone that needs something someday.

W. Ghormley sells a buckle for around $37.00 that I believe is a reproduction of the old style buckles, he indicates on his web site he has them made in New Mexico. He may give you some good information regarding having your own reproduction buckles made once you find an original you like.

River Junction Trade Company carries the solid brass with nickel plating that was the most commonly used in the Old West and are copied from an original (not all were exactly alike anyway) - at this price it would be hard to reproduce your own especially considering they need to be nickel plated to be "right"....

They also carry the plain rectangular style which is also very nice and is a good alternative for a change of pace.........

FWIW - Tandy's are not solid brass, but rather pot metal (at least the only one I ever tried) Weaver sells the solid brass with nickel plating, but is of course wholesale only.

Will G's buckles are very nice and I do like his fancier ones, but FWIW the RJTC clip corners are in fact more historically correct..........
