Help- Newer Artisan Won't Stitch

Hi all,

I am in desperate need of help. i have an Artisan toro 3000, only has less than 10 hours of work on it. the other day I went to change the bobbin thread, wound a new bobbin, put it back in and now when I stitch, the machine doesn't catch the bobbin thread and bring it back up through the plate. I have called artisan, they don't have any idea - they sent me an extra spring that the bobbin casing is housed in to replace, did that with no success, other than that - he has no clue. They suggested that I re-thread the machine, we checked that, re- thread the bobbin, we did that; replace the needle, we did that; checked the timing (thanks Cobra Steve) did that to no avail....I have no clue what could be wrong just from changing out a bobbin? There isn't anyone close to me for help and no one close that I know of that can come for a "house call". Artisan has no other suggestions. This is basically a brand new machine, and now I can't use it. I sew fabric, so I know the basics of sewing machines, but am stumped on this one.

Did anyone ask you about the needle?

I have seen over and over again, it's usualy something so obvious it should be called a

"dope slap".

HI Charlene, if you send the head to me, I will repair it at no cost. You will have to pay shipping both ways which might cost you around $150.00, but a mechanic might charge you that much anyway. You can be sure that the machine will be repaired correctly and I will give you a warranty. Thanks, Steve

Charlene, have you watched the DVD that came with the machine?

I was having the same problem and watched the DVD and found out I had the machine threaded wrong though the tension.

Also check to see if you have the bobbin so that the thread comes around the bobbin counter clock wise and up though the plate..

Needle in the right way?

Needle not too big for thread also check needle system, 794?

The shuttle (bobbin) should be going back and forth when the machine runs and it should not move when the machine is not running. Some of the 3000 machines will break the shuttle shaft right at the connection to the lower crank.

Check shuttle point to make sure it didn't break on something.

And last but not least. make sure the motor is running in the right direction, the handwheel should be turning toward you.

Steve - thank you for all of your help...will have to talk to my husband and see if we can get it shipped out.

Art - did check the shuttle, it is moving back and forth when the wheel moves, is stationary when wheel is not moving, so I don't think that is broke.

I replaced the needle with one that came with the machine, I don't know the size, but since artisan sent them, it should be the correct one.

I am pulling the wheel towards me, sometimes it will catch the first stitch, but then after that nothing

DVD - I didn't get a DVD with my machine......and the tech never suggested it - so I guess I will call and get one of those and see if anything else on there helps

Take a look at the bobbin and make the thread is coming out and though the clip counter clock wise, mite also check to see if you may have dust buildup on where the thread goes in the little clip as it exits the bobbin.

Cleaned the whole housing down there where the bobbin is.....

Is your needle inserted as far up as it can go? Is the scarf of the needle positioned correctly? If your machine threads left to right, the scarf of the needle should face left. Likewise, if it threads front to back, the scarf should face front. This is a drawing of regular home machine needles but it shows the scarf.

I don't know if it would make a difference, but maybe there's something on the 'new' bobbin causing the problem. Seems like if everything else is right, it would be prudent to go back to the bobbin you know was working correctly. Probably be a good bit cheaper to replace the bobbin than have someone come out, or ship the head off, too.

Hi Mike, thanks for the suggestion, it is the same bobbin, just with new thread......I just took it out - rewound it, then put it back in - but thanks for the suggestions

Charlene, I had a problem with my 3200 catching the bobbin thread when I tried to sew on leather that was too thin. The bigger machines are apparently not designed to sew 1-2 oz leather. Once I sewed on thicker leather, I did not have any issues.

Just a thought since everyone else has covered the other suggestions.
