What do you put underneath your leather when cutting? For example, with knife or punches... I am think a chunk of plywood would probably do the trick; what are other people's experiences? Before, I've put old leather underneath, but I generally just end up going through it when punching, or having to wrench it off. TIA!

I've never even heard of burying bone to "sanitize" it. I would probably just scrub it, and bleach it. You don't want bugs growing on your bone, and you don't want it to smell like a dead thing. If you need to shape it, you could wear a dust mask and use a Dremel on it. You can also chip it with rocks to shape it well, like you were making an arrowhead.

So, for what it counts for, I have been browsing here for at least a year. I'm fairly new to leatherworking, and am currently working on a leather notebook. (It will have a goat on it. Why hasn't anyone else done a tooled leather goat??) I am a farmer of a small, humble farm in the middle the humble Ozarks mountains.
