Help With An Acrylic Resolene Finish That Didn't Turn Out Right!

I used Fiebing's acrylic resolene over some oil dye, and it seems to have dried, but it remains sticky! I don't know if it needs more time, or if I put it on too thick? Either way, I'm hoping there's something I can do to fix it!

Any suggestions? Please help!

Has it dried yet ? Did you try using a hair dryer on it ? When i use resolene i put it on with a sponge. Squezee the sponge out not dry but not full either and go over what ever your using it on lighty. Generally i do two coats and the resolene has been thinned down with water.

I applied it straight from the bottle and with a wool dauber. Obviously not the best method, judging by your suggestion! It dried overnight and was still quite sticky this morning... I just finished using some deglazer on it, and although the finish is now a bit streaky, it's become more of a matte finish than the ragged gloss it was previously. It still doesn't look professional, but compared to what it was, I'm very happy! I was almost to the point of wanting to totally redo the project.

Mix it 50/50 with water. Apply a light coat, let dry, buff, and apply a second coat if you think it needs it.

Hi,The old grump here again; That's precisely why I started to use my 'homemade' stuff --- that, and I ran out of Super Sheen. Used Resoline once and then heard of too many having probs with it. Believe it or don't, but I mix 'Mop and Glo' 50/50 with water --- YES the floor goop you get at the grocery store, and I mist it on with an airbrush. It can also be applied with a damp sponge, rag or even a pump sprayer ripped off from a bottle of Windex. Just apply lightly [wipe any drips which occur (because you got too close with the sprayer), with a finger, towel or shirt-tail] allow to dry (five minutes or so) apply a second LIGHT coat and you are done. Done, unless you do as I do and add a thin coat of Kiwi neutral shoe polish, buffed out to a nice sheen. (Apply the polish with your fingers only, and rub in well, then buff.) The Mop and Glo is basically the same kind of stuff as Resoline, ie. an acrylic. The M&P will set you back around $5.00 for something over 30 oz. Check the cost of resoline, Super Sheen etc. and do the math --- and you can still use the rest to do your floor with! Mike

Tinneal, i don't know how much water i put in. I just eye ball it. I keep mine in a tupperware type container and the sponge stays in the container.
