  1. I am looking for information as well, there is no one in my area that teaches leather stamping & carving. I am trying to find a source of information just basic western filigree would be great to start with. tandy does;t offer much in the way of instruction any more
  2. couldn't you just order some tan kote on e-bay? a lot of times they do free shipping so probably not too expensive. you could wait a week or so, or gamble on a quick fix that may not work
  3. how about this??? Floral Pattern Drawing for the Artistically Impaired https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018USD9ZG/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=26ZG03JQ4CXR&coliid=I1BIXYLXWPTTPG
  4. question: Floral carving for Artistically impaired and Creating Western Floral Designs books..... how far can you go with these books? do they give you a good skill level?
  5. you have to be careful when ordering the Tandy books. some are OK some are NOT let the buyer beware!
  6. the book look like they will be of great help. I am on the same quest "to learn to design western floral designs" has anyone tried Sheridan Style Carving Paperback – 2000 https://www.amazon.com/dp/0967964709/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=26ZG03JQ4CXR&coliid=I23AR1YOA5HGE5 is this book worth getting??
  7. does anybody know the size of this thread?? polyester Waxed thread for one, "tandy product
  8. I am returning to leather work after several decades of R&R. some of the prices of the things I used to get at Tandy are now outrageous. 1.polyester Waxed thread for one, "tandy product" ( comein whits, black & brown. in my area Tandy sell this for $20 per roll, and since they don't have a story in my area. it is $20+tax+shipping = outrageous price !!! this item is not that uncommon. I am sure that there is something on the market that would be as good for a lot less money, ( even if I have to wax my own thread! anyone have any ideas???
  9. I've seen a bunch of tools in figure carving videos that I'm not sure what they are. Can the more experienced here recommend some things that would be helpful in the future for Sheridan and figure carving see if tandy has classes, this would be where you want to first spend money, then buy leather and practice, practice, practice, practice, get new tools as you need them for your projects.
  10. I am in the same spot, I used to do leather work back in the 80's & 90's but I didn't pick up the carving & stamping (most people don't want to pay for the time & effort that is put into a good project) now returning to the hobby I am finding that most people who have a good working knowledge of the craft have ether retired or are not willing to teach. and tandy at least in my area is not the place to learn the craft that it used to be. books only take you so far, you need to find a mentor to show you the tricks of the trade if you are serious about developing your skills at carving. most tandy's have a advertisement board where local leather workers can advertise ( I am thinking that your store might one of these) I would suggest that you might try contacting a few of the local leather crafts people and ask them to give you some feed back on your work.
  11. does any one have a good pattern for a bikers wallet? I have a project I want to do for a friend looked at tandy and most kits are $50 and plastic filled ( YUCK) anyone have something that they don't mind sharing???
  12. Wheel Gun Molds And Patterns, I haven't come across any except for snubbies
  13. it looks like the instde is canvas, but from the pictures at amazon you should be able to make a pattern good luck
  14. I looked at Arthur Porter & Don Morin they are working with sewing machines and making more clothing type products. Iam looking for some basic western floral carving (ideally using the seven basic tools, I see no need to add more tools until I learn to work with what I have) I am working with thicker leather and working it by hand. the forum bot wouldn't let me post an example of what I would like. - so just think basic cowboy tooling thank you
