Box with carved cat

Recommended Posts

Here is the first cat I've ever seriously attempted. I'm pleased with the outcome overall. My question is, seeing how the box is stained, what color should I make the leather and the cat? I'm thinking a light brown, like saddle tan, with the cat down in a resist; or burgundy with a black cat, or grey cat...just can't make up my mind! So the choice is in your hands! LOL!

Resist the cat and go with the tan background. But that is what I would do.

Here it is, using the new Tandy product Block Out for a resist, then saddle tan antique (liquid). It needs a little touch up here and there, but I'm pleased. It's my first carved cat, so practice will surely improve the next few ^_^

Looking good. I have never tried the Tandy Blockout; so it looks like something for me to check out. Sometimes old habits are hard to change. :P

I have to laugh at the "Sometimes old habits are hard to change." I heard this same thing from Dennis Yoder when I bumped into him in town today (He is the one other leatherworker in Hamburg). The only reason I tried this product was that Jim Linnell (spelling?) used it at a workshop he gave in the Tandy, Baltimore (MD) store. Seeing it in use "sold" me on it. It works much better than Super Shene type products.
