Ancient Singer "7-31" Sewing Machine.(Price Check?)

Recommended Posts

Hello. I'm new as you can tell. Yesterday I found an awesome Singer Sewing Machine which still works well. After doing the research, the machine is a "7-31" model(The man I bought it from said his father owned it for 63 years & told him it was used during World War I by the US Military to make tents, canvas, heavy fabric & flags). What I didn't find when scouring the internet for information is a base that is anywhere similar to this(The machine is sunk into the wooden maple top, with cast iron legs that are far less ornate then anything I've seen from a "sewing" machine). I could try to describe it, but the pictures will truly do it justice. I have no clue what it is worth, the closest I could find on eBay ranged from 1200-3000$ dollar range but a lot of those were just for the machine with a newer base - Do any of you pros here have any idea what this piece of history could be worth & is there anyone who is interested in buying it? Here are the pictures.

Thanks for your time.

Dane

HI Dane,

That's a great find, you dont see that many with the top clutch system about. The price range you mentioned is about right... I buy and sell these machines in Australia and get them from the States and UK. I believe their value over there to be between $1000 and about $2500. I sold a 7-31 this week here in Oz for $1950. They should be worth more in my view, however cheap imports that have reverse have put them in the shade somewhat. Good luck with your machine, you can still get bobbins, shuttles, needle plates, needles etc. Regards Steve

Thanks for the info Singermania! A man offered me 750$ for just the machine. Is there anyone on here willing to offer more then that? I would personally prefer to sell it to someone who has the intention of keeping it with its original base for the historical value.
