Hey Bruce,

The extra strap is for packing a second rope during an average roping. The second rope is tied w/ a barrier string to an eye screw or steple to the front right of the swells and then the already built loop is tucked under the strap out of the way. If a person misses w/ their first loop, they just grab their second, break the string and their ready to rope. Often during the NFR, you'll see guys that can tie a calf in 12 or 13 seconds w/ two loops.

Did ya ever get your tack collar built?

Kevin,

I WIN!! Crown for me. That was my bet. Thanks. I go back to the string on the dees and tuck it under the breast collar days. Coolest second loop I ever saw was at the NFSR in Laramie in '83. I think that was the last year they had it there. All Roy Cooper had to do was catch in the last round for the average and the year end, and mailed one from the line about 27 feet and missed. He had the second rope up and going before the first one lined out. Snagged with the second loop and I think still placed in the round.

Haven't got the tack collar done yet. He is supposed to get his buddy's dad's old tack collar and bring it over for a pattern.

Bruce,

Kevin is right, that is for the second loop. That is the exact same set-up we used Team Tying before Dallying became popular. To this day I'm not sure there is anything so exciting as turning a steer and then hanging out in the left stirrup waiting for the heeler to turn in!!!! What do you think, does that date me a little???!!!!

Bob,

Tying always looked kind of cool, and I'll bet it is a rush to be in the middle of it. Glad to get a second on the strap. I figured that was it, but then my buddy has a picture from a warmup pen where the guy had splint boots hanging on it. I am claiming victory now, even though it may be a dual purpose strap.

Bruce,

I see nothing wrong with hanging your Galimba's from your second loop strap!

Enjoy the Crown!

I used about the same on my calf horse for the second rope you know back two to use them lol. If some one would have a old western horseman roping book it showes like 3 ways to hang the second rope on for triping or calf roping.
