Tips For The Scharf Fix 2000 Paring Machine Please!

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I was wondering if many people had experience with this machine and could offer any tips just to get me started. I've only recently got hold of one and have been having a practice. I will be using it to primarily skive down edges on a garment weight chrome dyed leather (approx. 1.5mm thick), to reduce bulk on seams. The main issue I seem to be having is that the effort I use to pull the leather through the machine tends to stretch the edge slightly. Do I need to be skiving smaller amounts through at a time?

Any help would be great!

Thank you!

Have you checked YouTube? I have one, but I have only used Veg Tan leather on it.

When I use garment weight chrome dyed leather (approx. 1.5mm thick), I pull, but at the same time I use my thumb to push and guide the leather. There is an unavoidable small stretch on the edge. I minimize the stretch by using a new blade for each project.
