Round Leather Wallet Rein

Recommended Posts

I looked around for a while to see if anyone has asked this before, but no luck. Im interested in making a round leather cord wallet rein. Looks simple to do but I cant figure out how they are sewn together at the ends. Looks to me like waxed thread wrapped around 32985792857 times. Anyway...heres a photo of the rein i am talking about. anyone have any idea how these are done?

I've used this numerous times on small leather cord stuff. Very easy to do. The knot has a name, but I can't remember it off the top of my head. If you make it from the same piece of cord that has the loop, it's called a Hangman's Knot. But using a thinner, separate piece of thread and it has a different name.

Here's a link that shows how to make it. Just ignore the stuff about button's, clays, etc and look at the bottom of the page.

Found it. I though it was a Whip Knot, or Whipping, and was right....

Do a Google search and you'll see tons of images on how to do it.

Hi Zach, I would sew the 2 sides together with a single row of stitching down the centre of the cord before wrapping it to make it look better- it will strengthen the whole structure.

good idea. i was thinking about anchoring it down that way as well. wallet reins will get some tugs and pulls over its lifetime. have to make sure its secure. thanks!
