Looking For Help From An Experienced Rifle/shotgun Sling Maker

Recommended Posts

Recently I've been getting requests to make rifle/shotgun slings. There's just one problem, I don't know how to make them. There are parts I think I understand, like how the sling connects to the swivel mounts, and that there are usually a long strap and a short strap, with a D ring attached to the short strap, but I don't understand how they connect, or how the length is supposed to adjust, particularly on the "cobra" variety. I've searched endlessly on google for help, but to no avail, so I thought what better place to ask such a question. If I could get a crash course or tutorial from an experienced sling maker, I would be eternally grateful! I'd also like some opinions on what the widest a sling could be and still serve it's purpose without being bulky and annoying, because the people contacting me would like a big cannabis leaf on it, which I can't make smaller than just under 3" wide. Thanks in advance to all the helpful friendly people on this forum, it's a great community of leatherworkers!

Fiend I made 4 of them recently but they weren't the type to sew on, the end straps were sewn to 1 " with a 2" which became 1/2 and 1" after being sewn. The 2 " piece that was sewn to make an opening to run the 1/2" pieces through so it made a loop sewn onto the wider strap on each end to put around the rifle barrel and butt. The part that was sewn in-between the strap and suede was also 1" wide on the other end to the two looped pieces. One looped was free float because a buckle was sewn on one end of the the strap and that piece was longer than the other one with belt holes so it could be adjusted, thus needing the one inch left on it and a longer amount of it on the side opposite the loop. I sewed mine 2 & 1/2 inches so three shouldn't be a problem. I just scanned as much as I could of my pattern to upload and I hope you aren't as confused as I am, LOL. If I can explain this better, just ask.
