What To Do With A Weightbelt

I just finished tooling a weight belt for my brother. He wants to leave it the natural veg tanned leather color. I was wondering if there is anything I should put on it to help with the sweat soaking into the leather. I know it will change the color after use no matter what. But is there a finish i should put on it to help block the sweat. or just have him oil it every so often. The leather is a piece of 13oz saddle skirting and will have a thin piece of linning leather stitched on the inside. Thanks for taking the time to read.
