Who Is Your Favorite Leather Supplier?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I was wondering who you guys love to buy your hides from?

I'm super happy with my Wickett & Craig English Bridle for handbag straps buy want a buttery soft 2.5-3.5 oz. hide for handbag bodies and clutches. I occasionally use the Tandy Minelli sides but am looking for a larger hide to yield more products. Plus, I think I can find a larger hide at a better price. I own a business so anyone who does wholesale pricing is a plus.

If you work with soft garment weight leathers I want to know where you like to purchase it from!

Thanks for any feedback!

Location would help alot. We are a global community after all. Aside from that there are a couple apparently fine companies advertised at the top of the page. I am on the fence about tandy recently, as many others are. Quality, consistancy and pricing could all be better there and have been in the past it seems. Most of the other bigger American suppliers are on here somewhere. I am in canada and have a wonderful shop nearby with almost no web presence, so i have no first hand knowledge of the US market. Happy hunting.

Thanks Tinker Tailor! I'm in Atlanta. I have worked with some great online companies but it just seems hard to find something lightweight like a 3 oz. that is not an odd lot. Just need to be able to reorder.

Kinda off topic, but wondering if anyone has physically been to weaver leather. I'm in canton Ohio this week on business and wanted to stop by there this afternoon.

Many times, it is out in the boonies. Big operation especially the manufacturing end of it. Good showroom, you should enjoy it.

Are you talking about veg tanned 3 oz, or garment type leathers? For chrome tanned leather in a 'bag' weight, you might check with http://stleather.com/

Their on-line catalog is pretty lame, but the leather is just fine.

I deal mostly with Thoroughbred Leather in KY. They have been showing some lighter weight leathers on Facebook recently. Have had good dealing with American Leather Direct too. Also KY.

I've been to Maverick a few times. Cool people working there. I usually get my leather from Wicket & Craig, however. I'd like to visit Hide House one day...

Another vote for Maverick. I haven't bought anything but Horween from them, so I can't rate their thinner garment leathers, but they have a good color selection (it looked like), and they are super helpful and will go out in the warehouse, handle the leather, and describe it and its' condition to you while they're on the phone with you.

The Hide House, Napa CA. Nothing but good things to say. They ship next day, and accept returns of any leather I am not pleased with.

Try Garrett Leather Co. Buffalo, NY. They sell mostly upholstery material. Their web site is located in their name.

Good luck.
