Neatsfoot Oil and Antiquing

Recommended Posts

What Id like to do is use neetsfoot oil to finish a piece, I see a lot of saddles and gun belts that are finished this way without dye. Im wondering if its possible to do a finish like this but also to use antique? If so would i antique and the use the oil? Do I need to seal the antique in some way before the oil bath?

Oil to the desired color, seal with Tan-Kote, Bag-Kote, or Neat-Lac, antique, then seal again over the antique. That should get you what you want.
