What To Do With The First Stitch?

Recommended Posts

So I've been practicing and practicing with my new machine. I'm about ready to tackle the project I've had cut out for over a week. I've got the backstitching figured out and am confident it won't unravel. However, the first stitch not so confident. I pull the lock stitch tight in the middle and cut off both ends near the leather with an exacto. It seems as thought it may unravel pretty easy. Should I start with a reverse stitch first, melt the ends, or what?

What i do is set the foot down what would be 4 or 5 stitches down and back stitch then come over and go on my way to the other end and back stitch.

I agree totally. My oldest daughter is an accomplished seamstress, she does this maneuver with all her clothes. Certainly works for leather also.
