Notebook Cover

Recommended Posts

This is a 5X8 notebook cover I did today. It's 6/7 oz. HO leather with a buffalo liner and hair on interior pocket. Any comments or constructive critisism is welcome and appreciated. Thanks!

Fire, that notebook is spectacular.

One question -- an issue I tend to have with my notebooks is having them stay closed. I usually employ some sort of strap or tie to keep the notebook folded when closed. How are you accomplishing that? I'm imagining that the liner makes it even more difficult to stay folded...

Thank you all for the compliments,

Freak- I'll try to get another picture up tomorrow as I'm at the fire station today.

abn- To be honest with you I had every intention of putting a strap on this one, but a severe lack of planning made it impossible. (I forgot)

I have had good luck getting my other notebooks to close by putting them between my seat and the fold down console in my truck for a few days. (Don't tell Dodge or they will probably charge extra for the "leather folding feature").

Well done! There aren't as many people doing Sheridan style carving any more just because of the time involved, but in my opinion it's completely worth it.

Very nice. The tooling looks great. I've always liked a more mellow back ground, the black is too harsh for me but the execution of the design and the qualty of the back ground staining is excellent! I like the hair on pocket, adds some class but my only concern would be how will it wear? The stiching is nice and even and for the most part very striaght, you do that on a machine or is it hand stiched? Great idea with the seat folding trick.

I make old fashion style lined spur straps and usually tool the strap and then before the strap dries fully (slightly damp) then dampen, mold and stich the lining on, trim and edge both pieces. You can't make them straighten out if you wanted to. ( Not good for a note book though.) Anyway they stay put on yer boots without dangerous heel chains and are less likely to foul when riding. Maybe I'll check the cab of my Dodge for a good spot to fold or form some leather!
