Thread Size For Slim Wallet

Recommended Posts

Hei..

I'm radit from Indonesia..

I'm new to leatherworking..and i want to know what thread size for making a slim wallet..

I've already make one..but I think the thread size doesn't fits well ( my seller says 1,2mm in diameter), especially when doing the finish stitching (top left corner of the wallet)

So..i need sugestion on that thread size..you can see from the attachment photo..

I really appreciate any suggestion..

Depends on how you want it to look. I would go for around 0.5mm on a wallet though.

Thanks Matt..

Is 0.5mm strong enough..??

I want to make it clean and neat actually..but with the stitching result like that I think I need to change the thread size..

If you are using polyester or nylon thread the leather will probably rip before the stitches if you pull hard.

So..what about waxed ramie or hemp..?? Is it will ripped thr leather..??

And what is the meaning of size 20/3, 16/5, 30/3, 16/3..??hiw to convert them to mm size..??

Thanks again Matt..

With ramie or hemp, it will probably break before the leather; but that's usually what you would want. You want your thread to rip just before the leather would give away; that way you can repair the item.

The sizing is a little complex. Here are some references for you:
