Hot Stamping Thin Leather

Recommended Posts

I have a hot stamp - one of those soldiering iron thingies. My problem is when trying to stamp thin chrome-tanned leather, it curls and warps the leather. I have tried different heat settings, but it needs to be hot enough to burn the mark and that then curls the leather.

Do I need a different tool?

It might be the tool, it might be technique. I personally haven't done any, but there have been other that have given some tips and helps in the forum.

I was able to dig up a couple videos that are on leather pyrography, I hope this is enough to get your pointed in the right direction despite my lack of personal experience on the topic.

Try reducing the time you have the stamp on the leather. Just want to burn the impression, not cook all the leather under the stamp.

Perhaps just dampen the leather, then use the tool.
