PHIPPS CRAFTED LEATHER

First Customer Request For Iwb Holster

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I just received my first IWB holster request and have a few concerns. Won't the holster flaten out after repeated wear. Does the extra leather at the holster mouth ( summer special style ) help in the long run. I assume the use of spring steel or plastic will keep it open longer. It seems obvious to me that the holster will flaten out and make re-holstering (?) more difficult. I just really don't know the answers so I am coming here for guidance.

Force-drying the leather with heat after molding can really stiffen the leather. I'd concentrate mainly on the front surface of an IWB.

I prop my holsters up in a cardboard box, then blow hot air from a hair dryer into it from 3 feet away for half an hour. Have gone 45 minutes before, without any problems......as long as it IS three feet away.

Lobo made a good post a few weeks ago about the whole "one handed reholstering" phenomenon of late. I cant recall which thread it was in, but it made a lot of sense IMO.

I do however force dry my holsters as well, using a big cardboard box, an old wire rack for support, and a small forced air portable heater. Works great.

I'll have to look that post up. I've never used two hands to holster a weapon unless the other hand is moving a cover out of the way.

Shooter, I believe it was in a thread started by you talking about a Versa-Max holster. Mike

Thanks for the heads up Mike, make it easier to find. Input is always good and I respect what ya;ll have to say. Sounds like it should have some good info on the subject.
