Harwood Hardware

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if Harwood saddle hardware is still available.

Also wondering if you folks have used White bronze hardware for saddle rigging?

I got some from the Borks; everytime I handle the rigging plates I end up with dark fingers so I have not used them so far. Thanks Billy

Billy, the black your getting off the hardware is the polising agent they use for that shine. Use a rag with solvent of some kind to wipe it off(even gas will work) I put on some nitrite gloves to keep it off my hands while cleaning it off so no transfer to the leather. Herbs hardware is well worth the little extra time cleaning the polish off.

Hope this helps, Robin.

Thanks Robin!

I did just what you suggested, seems to have done the trick.

The Borks hardware is really nice stuff. When I order from Mrs. Bork, I use my cell phone with no long distance charge. The best I've done when ordering from her is 20 minutes, we always need to get out our opinions on the days politics. She is a very nice lady. Thanks again Billy

I enjoyed your comment about Mrs. Bork. I wondered if I was the only one spending so much time on the phone with her. Just had a nice in person visit when I picked up my order at the Pendelton show. I always enjoy visiting with them. Chris

IMO the rivet holes are one of the main reasons I prefer harwood hardware over any others, first the holes are made for #8 rivets not #9's like the other company's are. they the holes are even from side to side on the flat plate riggin hardware, this make gettin my riggins even an easier process since I can mark the holes and one side and just transfer the pattern to the other side. if the holes are off a little I have to make adjustments that takes extra time and messing about.

I use the #19 rivet in dees, on the hardwoods the rivet tab is recessed on both sides so the tab is in the middle of the dee not on the bottom side like the others. this creates less bulk, (minor differance but it is a differance)

then some of the other comapanys use brass not maganese bronze, brass will wear much faster that maganese bronze will. Borks use maganese bronze also.

With the harwood hardware I simply save some time, I don't have to do any polish clean up, I don't have to clean up the edges at all and the rivet holes are consitent from plate to plate. Just my two cent's worth. bork hardware works fine, the harwood seems a little more refined is all.

ps; the borks are great people, as is Chris cheany
