Pfaff 545 time for a servo AND a speed reducer?

Recommended Posts

I haven't been on the list for a while, but when I come back all I can do is marvel at the amount of knowledge that is here for people. You all are great.

A while ago I got an old Pfaff 545 and learned to run it with the old motor, but I am ready to make my life easier and have a few questions.

First of all, I am going to buy a Servo and the one I saw on Allbrands, I think it's called a Reliable Sewquiet 3000, has suggested with it for stitch by stitch is a little motor pulley. Do I get this? And will it make a difference to add a speed reducer? I can afford it right now. Anyone have a source for a relatively inexpensive one, and are there marked differences in speed reducers, practically speaking?

I am not a factory, I don't run the machine more than three hours a day, if that.

THanks in advance,

LA Pat

You might want to consider an Artisan Servo Motor - which is SPECIFICALLY designed for Leather Stitching - the electronics circuits are designed for you to be able to sew significantly slower than other servo motors that are manufactured for more generic use.

Also our price is $160.00 for the Servo Motor and I believe the site you have mentioned is asking significantly more.

Hi Pat,

With the 545, you may be able to get away with no speed reducer. I do think you should get a 550 or 500 watt motor instead of the 300. Definitely get the small pulley if you can, although they are readily available at the hardware store.

Now, the important part here is to get your motor from one of the sewing machine suppliers here, I can give you my personal preferences if you ask in a PM or email. The service will be there if you have questions, not necessarily so with Allbrands, they never really see the merchandise, although, if you know what you are doing, there are some good prices there. I have one of their 550 servos that works fine. It is all Chinese, so one will occasionally be DOA or Dead after 5 min, so here again a supplier is a handy interface.
