  1. Eventually I will replace it all with granite, the screw concept won't work for that. I was hoping to avoid putting holes in the wood top.
  2. I need some advice about making my workbench. I have modified an old drafting desk to make it. The problem is that it's got a loud hollow sound when I pound on leather. My plan is to lay a thick layer of rubber on part of it and a bathroom counter top (don't know what the material is) over the rest. The current top is painted wood. Does anybody have any suggestions on attaching these materials to the wood?
  3. I am just getting started with all of this. I have made a rough cut bag and want more practice with finished leathers. My question is: if finished leather isn't good for tooling then how do you mark where your stitches go?
  4. I'm working on a knife sheath and am having a problem with my thread. I purchased some simulated sinue, the problem it that it is several threads waxed side by side like a ribbon. I cannot get the needle to "lock in", it just pulls back through the thread. I had used some 4 strand poly that I liked but don't know what it is called. Does anybody know? What thread do yall like?
  5. Thanks, my wife is willing to give up one of her poly cutting boards so I'll use that in the future.
  6. I'm punching holes using a 4 pronged diamond hole-punch to sew my knife sheath. I was wondering what I should use for a backing during this process? Wood just yields and doesn't let the punch go through the leather but granite will dull the punch. What do y'all use?
  7. Thanks Y'all. I'm still in the beginning phase, I have a small desk in our craft loft but my wife is i bit noise sensitive so I can only tool while see is gone. Eventually I'm going to make a workbench in the bottom of the barn so that I don't disturb her.
  8. Geological here. I drive by the Tandy leather flagship store every day on my way to work. I have been messing with leather craft on and off for the last 20 years. I have finally decided to get a bit more serious.
  9. I just noticed that you a re local to me, Will you be wearing this to Scarborough?
