I just started working with latigo an I was wondering what is the best way to put a burnished edge on a strap

Dye the edge if the color is not struck through, rub with Bees wax and burnish by hand or machine.

I pull straps through saddle soap on both smooth and rough sides then pull the straps through my hand while wrapping the latigo with canvas.

It seems the saddle soap lubes the fibers on the sides while the pressure of squeezing the canvas burnishes.

It also leaves the straps with a nice feel to them when finished.

`Leatherworker can you explain your process a little more in detail. Do you edge the strap first ? Con you post a pic. of a finished strap ?

You should first cut an edge on the leather - sand the fibers - dye the edge - then add some sort of paste (beeswax, paraffin, saddle soap) and burnish with an edge slicker or canvas
