I have a bison pizzle that I have rodded, dried, scraped and sanded. One of the forums from about 2 years ago said something about using alum is the drying process. What mixture of alum is used? How and when is it applied? Is pickeling alum the same as alum used in tanning? Is it necessary to use the alum.? There was also something mentioned about varnishing the pizzle. Any particular varnish technique used? Also will need a cane handle for this pizzle. Where can I find just a handle? Thanx for the info.
I have a bison pizzle that has been rodded, stretched, dried, scraped and sanded. When and how is the alum mixed and applied? How long should the alum be left on? Is the alum used for pickling the same as alum used for tanning?
I have a 5 year old bison pizzle rodded, stretched, dried and scraped. How much alum is recommended, when and how to apply? Is alum uses for pickling the same as the alum for tanning?
