No leather work for 6 to 8 months. sniff sniff

Recommended Posts

Looks like i will be out of commisions for abot 6 to 8 months. I am going under the knife and dremel on Jan 20th on my right shoulder. i have a couple of tears and a couple of bone spurs on my roter cuff ,I hope it all comes out ok. Been suffering for three years now. Got hurt on the job when I worked for hobby lobby as a frame manager and when I got hurt managment refused to file a report. I did not realize how bad I was hurt. got fired a couple weeks later when they brought in a new manager and he fired everyone that was making more than minuim wage. I was the higest paid employee in the company at 10.00 that was not upper management so I went. filed a workmans comp and was denied because managment refuse to file the accident report. long story short it took me three years to get insurance to get this fixed.I have never nor will never darken the door of hobby lobby again. I hate that chinese store.

Doctor told me it will be 8 months to be fixed again.Iwill never be 100% but at least I will be out of pain.for the next month I will do as much as my body will allow me ,and then Iwill be on the site alot chatting and giving advice and dreaming of the time I can do leather again. lol

Sorry to hear you've been in so much pain. But glad you can now look forward to getting on top of leather work again soon. You can spend the next six months planning and drawing up sketches and stuff too. which would be good to see.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help TKLeather1 stock up on Pendelton's bottles.

Good luck with the surgery, Enjoy the meds.

Did you go to the hospital when the injury happened? Usually, if you even hint that the injury happened at work the hospital starts the paperwork as if it's a comp case.Maybe they have a record that could be used to hold the managers responsible for their inaction.

I had arthroscopic surgery on my elbow back in October and as I was recovering from that I ended up herniating a disk in my neck so I havent done much leather work since October. I've been doodling a lot of ideas though and planning my new shop.

Again, good luck and a speedy recovery.

John

Sorry to hear about your shoulder Leatherman. My boss had a similar problem on one of his shoulders, and he went under the knife. He could barely lift his arm up at all, but after the surgery, one cortizone shot, and about 2 monthes of taking it easy his shoulder felt better than it had in years. I hope your surgery is as successfull as his was. Did you ever call the labor board on Hobby Lobby? What they did to you is awful. Good Luck!!

Had both shoulder completedly reconstructed with minimal invasion in '05-'06. Recovered from both and now my nerves kill me, but as for the pain, I am much better since the surgery. The first shoulder was not done for 8 months and the second one did happen to get fix until a year after the first one.

My was work related and I ended up suing the company and won 13 months later.....seemed like forever! All said and done, I was no longer able to play golf, but I was able to find my way to leather work. It was a blessing in some form.

And, yes, drinking a cold one is rehab. Don't listen to them. You are going through the motions to keep flexiability in your joints and tendons. Also, flipping the bird up really high in the air while alternating arms is also rehab. Don't worry, you will think of some more.

Best of luck and have a quick recovery!

Don't let me crowd what the doctor said, but as someone who has had a similar ordeal, the sooner you start using the arm the better. Years ago I had torn the whole area pretty badly (boxing mishap, so insurance was out).

I'm right handed, and tore the left shoulder badly. Since I was a tennis player, I switched to handball -- thinking that was better "bilateral" exercise. It was, and now I have good use of the joint, every which way but back (with some thought, I learned to turn around to grab things that are behind me :) ).

Granted, this was back when you and I were both considerably younger, but it also used to be a MUCH more invasive surgery. I got Frankenstein-looking staples about 5" down the muscle... the guy with the same problem 5 years later got a "bump" about the size of a dime.
