  1. I’ve used this same strapping before too but it didn’t hold up well last time and this time I had to replace the handle on top also as it had begun its fraying from the edges to. Last time I thought I forgot to change out my leather needle so I know for sure I did it this time. Maybe stitch length I’ll lengthen it. I’ve mad quite a few leashes and collars with this nylon before too. Going out of town so I thought I’d throw one of these together for myself and I don’t need it to break. This was the 2nd day he used it. Other than the straps which I replace years ago it held up well. This one I used sunbrella and I waxes the canvas.
  2. It’s just a simple backpack for my 9 year old grandson and it happened on the one from when he was 5 or 6 too. I want to make one for myself and figure out what the problem is and how to avoid it.
  3. Hi I’m having trouble with my nylon straps breaking on the backpacks I made. It seems like the strap just shreads from where it joins the main part of the backpack. I’m not using a leather needle on it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do, it’s not making me want to finish?
  4. Thank you all so much. I was just sewing a 48" strap for a bag. No slowing, turning, back stitching or stopping. It looked fine and I didn't realize it was messed up until I was done. Thank you I think I got the picture resized, whew, you can see the back where it messed up and the front where it gave no indication of failure, and also my finished bag. This has happened to me before and also on my flat bed so I need to figure out what I'm doing. Sharon
  5. Hi I'm having trouble stitching on my cobra for the top of my strap I sold yesterday looks perfect he gave no indication of a problem and later I flipped it over and I saw a big long loop that got tangled up and then it stitched over which I had to cut and not. This is not the first time this is happened to me and I was wondering if anyone knows what the cause may be? How do I upload a picture it says 1.46 mb and won't let me
  6. I had a wonderful large couch that a pup of mine ate the underside of the cushion. It was a 3 piece one that curved so no longer could be used that way so I used a box cutter and ripped all the leather off. I've made many things with it, the bottom of a diaper bag, sides and bottom of many bags and I am currently making long straps for leather bags I make. It's nostalgic for me and I just don't tell some of the recipients I think they don't notice and just appreciate the leather. It was a nice black couch with soft leather.
  7. I don't know but it looks nice! I would start in the middle and go up each side. Good luck
  8. i'm sorry i'm using 138 and sewing purses. 69 and 92 on my smaller machine, the 618 can't handle the seams and marks the leather. i have only just finished the one completely leather exterior due totension trouble as i dont like wasting the leather.
  9. thank you so much. i didn't see the other screw, i will try again.
  10. I am finally trying to use my machine to make a new leather bag, I had the tensions both moved as light as possible for a couple of duffelbags I made for presents and was sewing the light canvas exterior to inside linings at the zipper. Now I am trying to top stitch through 2 layeres of leather. I have to keep fiddling with the tensions because I see the bottom thread on the top of the leather, after I've already adjusted it and sewn some of the same thickness. The book I got with the machine only shows you adjust the one top tension but here and online with you tube they show two tensions that have to be adjusted at the same time with the same amount of turn and to only do a little at a time. Could someone please clarify for me. Does anyone else have to adjust the tensions so much. My other flat bed is not that picky I just adjust a little and it stays put. i know this machine wants more thickness and larger needles with it. Thanks for the help. Sharon
  11. Thank you so very much for posting this, I am going to try to make this on my sewing machine. I've been looking for a slim type of wallet for my husband. The chiropractor told him to carry one in his front pocket and he got a bill holder/card slot type thing but he needs more card slots. I have got both thin leather and some that's heavier. I have two machines for leather, flat bed and cylinder. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you so very much for posting this, I am going to try to make this on my sewing machine. 12. Hi, for some reason this user name and password is not recognized by this board. I put in my correct email address and tried to get it to remind me what the password is and it says it is not recognized. I already had to get a new user name once and I just can't remember the password. I have to use the same device that remembers my current user name but I would like to use the ipad too. Any help would be appreciated. I may have used facebook or something to sign up this time, I'm just not sure.
  13. It was very kind of you to make a video of how to thread! My dealer had instructed me differently. They only wanted me to go through one half of the top threading guide, every other hole which is two holes only,. then same through the vertical threading guide, two more holes. On through the tension disks but they told me it's very important to go up and around the round rod that's on the tension disks before heading down to the next round metal thing. I tried to go through every other and then every hole on the vertical guide but it was too much tension on the thread and acually shredded it a little. So then I did the top the way the dealer told me and tried every hole on the vertical thread guide but same thing happened. It was too hard to get the fabric away from the machine as the thread wouldn't slide well. I just went back to the way that worked. I just bought a zipper foot for the machine and it only came with two pieces. Is that correct? Do you know? Thanks.
  14. First thank you everyone for taking the time to help me. I am quite sure that the needle is in as far as it will go. I did try to call this afternoon to Cobra Steve but he hasn't returned the call. I watched the Al Bane video and I'm hesitant to try the timing at this time. I was unused to this machine and didn't want to screw up the tensions and now I have to mess with the timing. I don't know how you drew the arrow on the pictures JLSleather but it's impressive and I thank you. I wonder how the timing gets out of whack??!! Well I was hoping to spend the weekend sewing a new purse on the new machine but i messed around so long trying to figure out what was wrong and how to fix it that I didn't get much done and I resorted to using my flat bed. I've had this machine one month and still haven't really gotten to use it. I ordered new needles and thread though. Maybe I can try on Wednesday, I work tomorrow.
