Gun Blocks/ Holster Patterns

Recommended Posts

Hi all, new guy here. Well, I'm sorta new, I've been a lurker for a while. Anyhow, My wife and I (mostly my wife) makes hand tooled leather items (imagine that). A lot of her work is custom order stuff for mounted shooting.....holsters, pommel holsters, etc...and we are thinking of getting into the concealed carry type holster. We already have the Tandy holster pattern packs.

My question....if you don't have the guns, how do you make the right holster? I know the pattern packs say the type of guns, but still......Is there such a thing as a universal CC holster? Does anyone make replica guns or blocks to be used for designing the holsters? Any other input concerning CC holsters is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.....Rob

Try Chris Andre at Slickbald Custom Leather. He has a nice assortment of blue guns and is a great guy to work with.

The only universal holster I know of is the slide style holster but then you need to make them in various sizes because a j frame smith is smaller than a k frame smith. Autos are usually fairly consistent enough to make a one size fits most but revolvers range from small to huge and will need different size slide holsters. Iirc a j frame and a 1911 auto will use the same slide while not a perfect holster it does allow one to carry a firearm on the belt.
