How Do You Store All Of Your Hardware?

Recommended Posts

I use those fishing tackle like trays; they have lids and are stackable.

Same as Billsotx, but get them with coupons (40%off) from craft stores-Michaels/Hobby Lobby. Find them with other storage containers and in the beads and jewelry area.

JoAnn Fabics has a great selection most of the time. I have quite a few with changeable partitions inside.

I get the ones with latches.

I started by using the fishing tackle trays, but eventually found that they started getting out of control ... I could never seem to find the right one when I needed it. So, I bought a one of these http://www.amazon.com/Akro-Mils-20-Inch-16-Inch-Hardware-Cabinet/dp/B003P2UOCO/ and another variant with all small drawers. Rings, buckles and bigger items go into the wide drawers. Snaps, rivets, and grommets etc are arranged by size in rows and color in columns with their respective setting tools in the leftmost column. It's generally pretty easy to find what I want.

Hope that helps

Bill

I have a tool drawer with removable tray inserts. The tray inserts are key cause it lets you rearrange stuff easily as your collection of hardware grows.

I use the plastic boxes with 24 or so drawers, I have a couple of them (three I think), they keep my hardware separated and handy. I use a smaller one of the same design with a little bigger drawers (9) to keep small tools that don't have a place on my pegboard. Like these:

I buy spice racks at the thrift store with the little clear glass bottles and have them hung on the wall of my studio. I have space for 40-50 bottles of brass and nickle spices. I like them cause i can just grab the bottle i need, throw a few pieces of hardware into the lid and put the bottle back on the shelf before i dump it. The shelves on the standard size spice racks also fit the smaller fiebings and ecoflo bottles as well.

All those plastic tray/drawer/divider things always break, get dumped, or you cant see whats in the drawer (unless you spring for the really nice ones). Plus you need a shelf or table to put them on. My spice racks hang on the wall.

I use this "tool box". Each compartment is remove able so you can put the hardware you are using by you on the bench. I picked this up at Home Depot

I thought I'd throw this on the pile too, a different idea in case someone here might stumble upon a freebie like I did. A wall mount automotive lightbulb assortment cabinet, the bins tilt open or you can lift them out;
